Your Golf Posture Counts – A Simple Guide To Fix Your Posture.

Maintaining a correct golf posture on the pitch key to how well you play, as well as how health your back stays over time.

It is recommended that the most appropriate golf posture to assume while playing golf is the position that your body would if you were bouncing a basketball. With little or no premeditation at all, your body readily adjusts and achieves a state of coordination and significant balance – the same applies to golf.

Keeping things simple, I have highlighted a three-step posture drill to help you accomplish an athletic setup. This way, you will have no reason to worry about straining your back or other active ‘golf-muscles’ during or after every game. Here is how it works:

  • Stage 1: Begin by standing perfectly straight with your feet wide open – approximately the exact width of your shoulders. Then extend your arms forward, holding the golf club in front of you. Do this in such a manner that your arms and club are exactly parallel with the ground below. At this stage, it is important that you do your best to avoid bending your knees.
  • Stage 2: With the golf club still held out in a parallel position to the ground, lower your arms gradually, until they are both resting on your chest. Then bend your knees slightly by a couple of inches. A perfect visual reference to this is to imagine that you are sitting on a high bar stool, with your knees only slightly bent before your butt makes contact with the chair.
  • Stage 3: This is the last and most important step in the posture drill. With the club still held parallel to the ground, slowly tilt forward without significantly moving your waist. Do so until your club head touches the ground. When it does, rest assured, you have attained a perfect setup position.

If you have followed this drill correctly, you should feel your body weight evenly distributed in the balls of your feet. Your hands should also be located directly underneath your chin – your spine slightly tilted forward, in a relaxed position.

Congratulations if you have followed correctly! You are now in a perfect setup position for your athletic swings.
